We are so glad you have decided to join our TAILS & Trails Pack Walk! The TAILS & Trails Pack Walk is a walk with a purpose; to exercise your dog's mind and body, to bond with your dog and to meet and socialize with other dog lovers! Please Review our Guidelines! These guidelines have been put in place to promote a fun, safe and productive atmosphere for both dogs and humans. • We welcome all breeds! We are fortunate to live in an area with no breed restrictions or legislation and it’s very important that we make a good impression! • Introductions will take place before each walk to welcome new friends and share important information about our dogs (i.e. behavior concerns, abilities, etc.). Don’t be shy about voicing any concerns you may have and be aware of dogs with special circumstances. We have ALL been there and we understand. • Please only two dogs per human. • Dogs must be kept on leashes at all times. • Please keep a respectful distance from others before, during and after the walk. • No dogs in heat; Altered pets highly recommended. • Leashes and flexi leads should be kept at maximum six foot length. • Please no toys or balls. • Please do not allow excessive barking or “antics" as it may excite the other dogs. Leader of the Pack: The Benefits of Group Walking with Your Dog
Pack walks have multiple benefits: helping with socialization, instilling good behavior and increasing exercise — and that’s just for the owners! Here are our tips for getting the most out of your experience:
Group walks are a great way for dogs to experience strangers and strange dogs in a safe environment. Experiencing new sights, sounds and smells is crucial in developing a dog’s ability to handle new situations. It desensitizes them to noise and distraction and helps them stay calm in a chaotic setting.
It’s best to start them off young. The first 14 weeks of a dog’s life are the most important time for social development in a puppy, and this early exposure makes dogs smarter and easier to train.
Dogs that have been socialized at a young age respond better to communication cues and have better social skills. Like children, dogs learn from watching others and can benefit from seeing other dogs modeling sensible behavior.
And as a dog's confidence grows, so does yours! In a pack environment, dogs get the reassurance and validation they need to grow into confident adults, and owners can meet like-minded people and learn new ways to train their dog and handle them correctly.
It’s also great exercise. Group walks can drain a dog’s restless energy and keep them mentally and physically fit. It’s also intellectually stimulating for the dog to meet different types of dogs and people.
Above all, pack walks build the bond between you and your dog and it's a great way to meet new dog-loving friends!
